• 80 FILMS! 6 DAYS! 1 EVENT! FEATURES. SHORTS. DOCUMENTARIES. WORKSHOPS. GUESTS.

Boston Sci-Fi is an 5 day film festival. In 2023, we will have two venues — in person at the Somerville Theatre and online at Filmocracy. 2023’s Festival will include feature films, short films, panels, our first every Costume Ball, and our signature event THE MARATHON. Most of these will be live with some being shown virtually. VIEW THE FULL 2022 (SF47) PROGRAM HERE!

  • SF48 will take place on February 15-20, 2023

  • The SF48 means Science Fiction 48. This is the festival’s 48th anniversary, and yes, Virginia, there are a few folks who have been to all 47 prior to this one. They are now annually brainwashing their children.

  • The Marathon runs for 24 straight hours. Think of it as the original binge view. It’s been happening for 47 years. This year, it’ll start at noon on February 19 and ends 24 hours later at noon on February 20.

  • In the Festival there are about 30 submitted and curated films. There will be roughly 10 groups of shorts totaling between 50 to 70 films. The marathon varies between 12 and 14 feature films. There are also workshops, special conversations, and parties.

  • Obviously if attending, you watch the films as they are scheduled. Selected programming will also be available via our virtual platform. Once released these can be seen anytime until the end of the Festival at midnight.

  • If you like science fiction films, yes. If you like seeing new filmmakers and the stars of the future, yes. When it comes to the Marathon, if you like staying up all night, yes. Either way, you’ll have a great time.
